Connie thomas, DNP, APRN Psychiatric Nurse practitioner
Oftentimes, people live with day-to-day routines unaware of the extent to which their lives are impacted by past trauma, depression, anxiety, addiction, or unresolved grief. The impact often goes unseen until it makes itself evident in relationship turmoil, problems at work or school, lack of self-care, etc. The journey of self-exploration can be challenging and takes significant courage. Whether it is your first step in your process or your “fifth” first step on another pathway for help, each step counts and demonstrates courage and growth. It is my privilege to provide support through the process of transformation in a safe space free of judgment or bias. In our work together, we’ll develop self-awareness and exploration techniques as the foundation of incredibly rewarding transformative growth. I’ll share a little bit more about me on this page and why I’ve committed myself to help others along the way. I look forward to meeting you!
I am a psychiatric nurse practitioner who is also certified in adult/gerontology acute care. Why would I do both? Because I am a clinician with a holistic person-centered approach to patient/client care. There are so many factors that play into why we feel what we feel and how our bodies respond to things. There are countless moving parts to the beautifully imperfect human body and mind, and it has become a passion for me to continue exploring, learning, and teaching where it can help others.
My clinical experience has been in the outpatient setting for mental health management, supporting patients with addiction and various mental health problems across the lifespan (i.e., ADHD, PTSD, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, personality disorders, sleep disorders, etc.).
My primary treatment approach with therapy focuses on tailoring empirically supported treatments to individuals’ needs using Cognitive Behavior Therapy techniques to develop and increase effective coping strategies. My therapy approach promotes self-awareness, centeredness, and identifying factors that influence one’s ability to process thoughts, emotions, and responses.
Outside work, I enjoy being outdoors in nature with my husband. I greatly value time spent with our children and grandchildren! In my personal time, I like to read and “nerd out” on things. I find it challenges me, offering new ideas and perspectives on various topics. I enjoy participating in volunteer efforts and mission work. Participating in mission efforts is enlightening, as it first began with my thinking that “they” needed “me.” Wrong. Lol… It was my own broken road that led me to where I am today, thankfully. And it is a passion and commitment of mine to support others on their journeys where I am privileged to do so.
